Alex Bisset announced NT Volunteer of the year

Alex Bisset win the 2017 Volunteer of the Year Award

AFL Northern Territory congratulates Alex Bisset on being selected the winner of the Northern Territory AFL Volunteer of the Year.

Based on the criteria, it was found that Mr Bisset’s nomination was the strongest from a strong pool of nominees, that covered the NTFL, CAFL and remote/community leagues and AFL programs right across the Territory.

With more than 14 years of service to NTFL and NT Thunder under his belt, Mr Bisset’s commitment and level of care towards player wellbeing is extraordinary.

On top of being awarded the Northern Territory AFL Volunteer of the Year, he has also won:

  • 2 x tickets and an AFL Grand Final Experience at the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final
  • 2 x return flights & accommodation for three nights in Melbourne for Grand Final weekend
  • The opportunity to walk in the Toyota AFL Grand Final Parade

AFLNT CEO Michael Solomon thanked Mr Bisset and all the volunteers for their outstanding contribution to footy.

“This year we had more nominations for the award than ever before and there could’ve easily been multiple winners if that were allowed.

“What stood out about Alex was that he was a founding member, committee member and was President for 10 years of Mindil Sharks Football Club. During this time he was also a committee member for five years of the TEAFA league (now merged with NTFL).

“So to say he is a deserving winner of this award is an understatement,” Solomon said.

Earlier this year Mr Bisset was a sports trainer for the inaugural AFLW Adelaide Crows team and was with them at their 2017 Grand Final victory. He has been a sports trainer for NT Thunder the past seven years, also volunteering as a massage therapist for players.

It was said in Mr Bisset’s nomination form that the “feedback from the players about Alex is that 'he's always happy', and they appreciate that about him and the effect he has on our training environment, as do the staff”.

Over the years he other has volunteered across a wide range of sporting events in Darwin, including the Arafura Games and rugby’s Hottest 7s.

Mr Bisset presents modules for Sports Medicine Australia NT is a mentor for new sports trainers.
