Gardens lights receive in principle support

Lighting Gardens Oval

The agreement is for lights to be to a maximum lumen capcacity of 600 LUX to enable AFLNT and NT Cricket to now develop detailed design, documentation and cost estimates.

AFLNT CEO Michael Solomon said ‘We are very happy with this development and are committed to consulting the community throughout the pre, during and post installation phases of the lights’.

‘These lights at Gardens Ovals will enable us to manage the growth of football and cricket which is being primarily driven through an exponential rise in participation by females and growth in junior sport. The current facilities are not able to cope with this growth in their current form’ he said.

‘Not only will they benefit football and cricket, they will also provide an opportunity for other non-sport related Community events to be held at Gardens Oval so there’s a great community outcome.’

‘We look forward to working with Council and other stakeholders to progress the project further.’

NT Cricket CEO Troy Watson said ‘The fact AFLNT and NT Cricket are working together on this is really positive. The two sports work well and have a natural synergy in how we do things.’

‘It’s fantastic to work with all parties to make sure the venue provides a year-round type use’ he said.
