2019 AFLW and AFL games in the NT

AFLNT enjoyed three big AFLW/AFL games in the Northern Territory in 2019.

Toyota AFL Premiership Season - Round 18

Melbourne vs West Coast Eagles
Sunday 21 July 2019
2:50pm ACST
TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs

Melbourne 11.12.78
West Coast Eagles 14.7.91

An all-important top-two finish for West Coast remains in grasp for the reigning premier, although its 13-point victory against Melbourne came after a massive scare.

It wasn't the most convincing display against a determined Demons outfit, but coach Adam Simpson would have been satisfied to come away from TIO Traeger Park in Alice Springs with victory in a rematch of last year's preliminary final, 14.7 (91) to 11.12 (78).

The Demons could have gone into the main break with a sizeable lead had they not fluffed numerous opportunities in front of goal.

Toyota AFL Premiership Season - Round 11

Melbourne vs Adelaide Crows
Saturday 1 June 2019
7:10pm ACST
TIO Stadium, Darwin

Melbourne 12.16.88
Adelaide Crows 14.6.90

Adelaide kicked eight of the game's last nine goals to avoid three consecutive losses, maintain its top-eight spot and post a thrilling triumph.

Melbourne's 91-point demolition of Adelaide in Alice Springs last year was proof of the Demons' bonafides, which eventually culminated in a preliminary final appearance.

Twelve months later, about 1500km north in Darwin, the Crows rallied from 31 points down in the third quarter to defeat a wasteful Melbourne by two points and end any hope of a season revival.

Late inclusion Sam Weideman had the chance to be the Demons' hero when he plucked a pack grab in the final minute, but steered his set shot to the left and time soon expired.

NAB AFLW - Round 4

Adelaide Crows vs Fremantle
Saturday 23 February 2019
8:05pm ACST
TIO Stadium, Darwin

Adelaide Crows 9.11.65
Fremantle 3.5.23

Crowd: 1,734

Adelaide inflicted Fremantle's first defeat of the 2019 NAB AFLW season with an emphatic 42-point victory in Darwin on the first weekend of NTFL finals.

The Crows led by just three points at half-time before booting six unanswered goals in the final two quarters to comfortably run away with the game – 9.11 (65) to 3.5 (23) – in front of a crowd of 1,734 at TIO Stadium.

The result meant the Crows (3-1) moved above the Dockers (3-1) into the second spot in Conference A, based on percentage.

Superstar Crows co-captain Erin Phillips continued her fine season with 25 touches and two goals, while Anne Hatchard and Ebony Marinoff were also superb for the Crows. Forwards Eloise Jones, Danielle Ponter and Stevie-Lee Thompson kicked two goals each, with Thompson and Ponter turning it on for their home crowd.

Danielle Ponter then went on to be named as the Round 4 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee.
