Monday night footy to develop more NTFL female talent

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is pleased to be hosting a four-week series of Monday night female development games, commencing tonight Monday 15 January.
The program is targeted at any females 17+ who did not participate in NTFL matches on the weekend.

Players from all clubs, and new players, are invited to come along and combine to form teams to play one another in a low-stakes environment, optimal for focusing on development.
Each week, specialist coaches and/or guest players will attend to offer their expertise.
The concept has been created in response to feedback from clubs that excess number of NTFL players had resulted in some missing out on game time each week.

AFLNT Football Operations team member and development series lead, Julie Hunter said participation numbers in women’s football has exceeded the number of positions available at the clubs, and she hoped this four-week trial would help fill the void for affected players.

“This series will be great for those players who missed out on playing that weekend to gain valuable match experience and develop their game.

“The matches will create an ideal setting for those players to develop their skills in an environment where they get immediate feedback, which in the long run will help progress novice players and improve the overall standard of the women’s competition.

“Retaining these players and harnessing their interest in women’s footy may just create a platform for a second division in next season’s NTFL women’s competition,” Hunter said.
The NTFL club who just sat out the preceding weekend due to the ‘bye’ has the opportunity to participate as a team and get some extra match practice in their week off.
Registration is not required and there is no cost, however players are encouraged to notify the AFLNT Football Operations department, so preparations can be made: or 0410 102 677.
