The Under 18s Town vs Country rivalry will reignite on Saturday 14 September at Albrecht Oval in Alice Springs when the two teams come together to showcase the best under 18 football talent from the Central Australian region.
The ‘Town’ team is chosen from players registered in the Saturday TIO CAFL competition, with the ‘Country’ team is selected from those who play in the Sunday divisions (Country League and Community Cup).
AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) Central Australia Pathways and Academy Coach Andy Hood said the opportunity to play in this game, and impress, can progress these young players’ football futures.
“All players will be aiming to show off their skills and flair in hope of being selected in the Redtails talent pathway program that can lead into the NT Thunder Academy,” Hood said.
AFLNT Remote Development Manager Tommy Dutton said the event would showcase not only the best junior talent from Alice Spring and surrounding remote communities in Central Australia, but provide a free, family-friendly event for all to enjoy.
“The event itself will have more than just footy talent on display with the addition of face painting, activities for the kids and half-time sprints with nominations from every CAFL cub. We hope footy lovers from around town and local communities will come down, support the players and have a good time.
“We will have a strong line up of players running around with the likes of NT Thunder new sensation Tyson Woods (Yuendumu), future guns Alonzo Nelson (Ti Tree), Jesiah Minor (Papunya) and Shane Inkamala (Papunya) playing for Country, taking on superstars Tyrell Martin (South), Damon Drew (Pioneer), Jackson Cole (Pioneer) and Francis Bruce (Pioneer) all playing for the Town team,” he said.
