2020/21 TIO NTFL key fixture & finals format updates

NTFL women's action

AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) has written to clubs to confirm key changes to the fixture and finals format of the 2020/21 TIO NTFL season.

Clubs had the opportunity to review the items and provide feedback at last week's presidents' meeting. The following decisions consider their input and have been endorsed by the AFLNT Executive;

TIO NTFL grand finals will now be split by age group so that Week 3 is for the 'Junior' competitions and Week 4 for the 'Senior' competitions; thus aligning with the same structure that the home and away season has been fixtured.

The change means that the Women's Premier League and Under 18 Girls will now hold its grand finals on the last day of the season, Saturday 20 March 2021, and they will also move to a finals series that involves the top five teams over four-weeks. All Under 12, 14 and Under 16 divisions will play a three-week finals series and finish on Saturday 13 March, the same day as the senior grades preliminary finals.

Exact wording can be read in the 2020-21 NTFL By-Laws; rule 3.1 - Competition - Finals.

The revised fixture for Round 4 (Toyota AFL Grand Final day) has been released and is available for viewing here.

As was communicated with the release of the fixtures last month, AFLNT always intended to redo the TIO NTFL schedule on this round so that everyone can take time to enjoy the biggest day on the AFL calendar.

The other noteworthy change to the fixture is rejigging Nightcliff's home games in Round 2. The last match of the day, the Men's Premier League clash against Waratah, will now start at 4pm instead of 6:30pm, given that the lights at Darwin Mazda Nightcliff Oval will not be operational to support a twilight game.

As always, people are encouraged to keep across the NTFL SportsTG website for the most up to date fixtures and results.
