AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) and Tiwi Island Football League (TIFL) are excited to announce that for the first time a live broadcast will be trialled for the 50th anniversary of the TIFL Grand Final this Sunday.
“AFLNT and Vocus have been working in the background on a potential solution for months and we’re really excited to be giving this a go,” AFLNT CEO Stu Totham said.
“This will be the first live broadcast that we’ve attempted on Bathurst Island and we have done all we can to ensure this trial will be a success.
“The fact that this has been able to happen in time for the 50th anniversary of the TIFL Grand Final makes this event very special.
“AFLNT is using a temporary VOCUS service via the new sub-sea cable and we want to pay tribute to VOCUS locally for their work to get this happening.”
Totham said the broadcast trial took on a new importance with the recent announcement that the 2020 TIFL Grand Final will be restricted to local residents, officials, support staff and media outlets.
“Vocus is a big supporter of AFLNT and also the Tiwi community, particularly as a major sponsor of the Tiwi Bombers. I’m pleased we’ve been able to assist AFLNT in trialling a live broadcast of the TIFL Grand Final,” Vocus NT representative Michael Nyhuis said.
The broadcast will be produced by local company KIK Digital.
