Albrecht Oval up in lights for the inaugural Mayor’s Cup

Albrecht Oval

This Saturday evening marks the first official Mayor’s Cup contest under lights between TIO CAFL Rovers and Federal Football Clubs.

This game will be the first of which the Albrecht Oval lights will be turned on, allowing more opportunities for TIO CAFL grades to play and train each week.

AFLNT Alice Springs Competition Manager Kelli Zaleski said the ability to have games played under lights at Albrecht Oval allows growth within the league.

“To have these lights turned on gives us the ability to extend our competition and include double headers with junior and reserve grade games leading into showcase twilight games for the TIO CAFL Men’s Senior division and also have an Under 16 Junior Women grade play each week.”

“The lights also increase the training capacity on weekdays with teams able to train until 8pm which is really exciting.

“We’re so thankful to the Alice Springs Town Council and NT Government for adding another venue to utilise which is now a great alternative to TIO Traeger Park.

“We can’t wait for a great game of footy when reigning 2020 Premiers try to keep their spot on top and take home the Mayor’s Cup on Saturday night.”

The Mayor’s Cup will continue each season to mark the first TIO CAFL Senior Men’s clash played under lights at Albrecht Oval.

Alice Springs Mayor Damien Ryan said he is thrilled to be part of TIO CAFL facility and competition history.

“Council is proud work together with the Northern Territory Government to continue developing our sporting infrastructure for all Alice Springs residents,”

“It’s exciting to see the first game played under lights at Albrecht Oval for the Mayor’s Cup.”

This season, the U15 Junior Men, U16 Junior Women, Reserve Grade Senior Men, Senior Women and Senior Men will have the opportunity to play on Albrecht Oval with the lights on.

To mark this special occasion, AFLNT are offering FREE entry to the game for everyone living in the Larapinta area. The names of the applicable streets can be found here. Please ensure you bring proof of residency/address to the gate to gain entry.
