Country Redtails take on South Adelaide in representative game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs

RCA

After a four-month long training program led by AFLNT, Redtails Central Australian Football Club and Right Tracks Program, the squad for the Under 20 Country Redtails team been announced ahead of their clash against the Under 18 South Adelaide side in Alice Springs tomorrow.

The training program comprised of three trial games, training sessions and healthy living education has been a positive motivation for young Indigenous men in the Alice Springs region.

AFLNT Remote Development Manager Clinton Firth says having the South Adelaide team come to Alice Springs is something the squad are really looking forward to.

“This is the first time we have run this program in conjunction with the Redtails aiming to engage the young remote Central Australian players in the off-season whilst also giving the fellas the chance to showcase the talent that exists in the remote Central Australian region,”

“To get a SANFL club up here with a long and proud history is a massive coup and it should be an amazing experience for all involved.”

The best players from remote Central Australia born in 2001 or later were eligible for team selection.

“The natural football and athletic ability that the team hold is really something special. The edge over South Adelaide will be our speed so if we can remain strong and structured defensively and use our speed and quick ball movement when in offence, we will hopefully run them off their legs.”

South Adelaide Football Manager Warren Ploenges says this game is a positive start to the Club’s relationship with the Redtails.
“This is a great opportunity for our Under 18 players and staff to visit Australia’s centre,”

“We are extremely grateful to the Redtails for providing this. It will be an invaluable experience which is greater than just football.

“We hope this trip will help encourage young footballers from Alice Springs and the surrounding communities to chase their dreams and see the opportunities AFL can provide them on and off the field.”

2020 Alice Springs Country Cup Premiers Santa Teresa will play 2020 Barkly Australian Football League Premiers Spitfires in a Regional Champions blockbuster as a curtain raiser for the Country Redtails and South Adelaide representative clash.

“Santa Teresa are pumped coming off back-to-back Premierships in Alice Springs… The Spitfires are also ready to rock and roll,” Firth said.

“There will be a bit of pride on the line which should make for a great contest.”
