The players have been announced ahead of the Central Australian Redtails and Katherine’s Big Rivers Football League game this Saturday afternoon. It is the first time the two teams have played each other in a representative game since the Redtails officiated.
“The Redtails are really keen to come up to Darwin and are excited to be part of the representative weekend,” Redtails Coach Shaun Cusack said.
“This is another opportunity for the team to play together and represent Central Australia. The guys are really proud of where they come from and are excited to represent their region.”
Each squad have selected the best of what their region has to offer the footy fan.
“We have strong key position players in the team with plenty of experience in place to support our exciting smaller players from all corners of our region who love to run and carry and move the ball fast,” Big Rivers coach Malcolm Fox said.
“The Redtails are a tough organised opponent that will be hard to beat. The match will be a high scoring match to watch that hopefully encompass the best of rep footy that shows off the best things about NT footy.”
Aside from the talent on the field, be sure to look out for the Big River’s Guernsey which was designed by artist Jamie Bryant aged only 17. Bryant is a Katherine South local and NT Thunder Academy player who was crowned the 2020 Big Rivers Football League Women’s Fairest and Best player.
“The blue in the middle represents the ‘Rivers’ of the region while the circles and patterns represent the different communities and teams that play in the competition,” Bryant explained.
“All together the guernsey represents how all the different communities are coming together to play as one Big Rivers team.”
