The Sporties Spitfires and Janapurlalki Eagles will bring to a close the 31st season of the Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL) when they contest the A-Grade Grand Final at Purkiss Reserve in Tennant Creek at 2pm tomorrow.
Spitfires are aiming to make it three premierships in row and Eagles are looking for their first since 2018. In the 30-year history of BAFL, Spitfires have won 15 titles and Eagles have won seven.
The teams have met three times this season with Spitfires winning all those matches but Eagles became within 17 points of winning the Round 11 match up. In their last Grand Final match up back in 2015, Spitfires were winner by seven goals.
AFLNT Regional Development Manager for Barkly, Wayne Green said this weekend is set to be a great display of footy from the Tennant Creek region.
“This should be a cracker of a game. Eagles always lift when it comes to finals and they are up against a club that has won the title six of the last seven years,” he said.
“Both are foundation clubs and apart from Eagles missing the 2020 season due to the impact of COVID-19, have competed every season since the birth of the League.
“I want to thank the umpires and volunteers for all their support this season. It has not gone unnoticed and all the support has contributed to the makings of a such successful season!”
The Patrons Medal Count for the Best and Fairest player in the BAFL will take place at 12.15pm on Saturday at Purkiss Reserve before the big dance. Gates open at 10am.
Prior to the Medal Count, BAFL Under 15 teams will play a curtain raiser at 11.30am.
