Waratah remain a game clear on top of the Women's Premier League ladder after a hard fought win over beachside rivals Nightcliff on Saturday.

The red and whites were challenged in the second and third quarters on Nightcliff's home ground when they failed to score a goal, but rallied in the last term despite some inaccuracy in front of goals to win by 16 points.

The blustery conditions and traditional wet season heat made it a tough day at the office for both sides, with Tah's prevailing to win their fifth game from as many starts.

"Nightcliff certainly put it to us, but we were up to the challenge which was really pleasing,'' coach Heidi Thompson said.

"We're five from five and play PINT (second with four straight wins) in Round 9 and we can't wait for that game, it will be a blockbuster.'

Lauren Pluker at centre half-back on dangerous Tiger forward Cassie McWilliam was Tahs' best player, with the highly rated Isobel Hartog finding plenty of the football in a midfield-forward rotational role and Sharona Bishop down back other good players.

PINT beat the Tiwi Bombers on Bathurst Island when they ran away from the fast rising Tiwi Bombers by 10 goals in steamy wet season conditions at the Wurrumiyanga ground.

The Queenants shot down the Bombers in the first half, booting 11 goals to two before the hot conditions and a determined Tiwi side limited the damage in the last half.

The first NTFL side to catch the ferry to the islands for the season, the Queenants stepped off the boat in the right mood to win a game of football.

Reni Hicks in the middle of the ground was sensational for the visitors, while on-ballers Jayla Hunt and Amy Chittick - a stomach victim of the choppy surf between Cullen Bay and Bathurst Island were big contributors to the win.

The Tiwis were best served by Maria Rioli, the consistent Marieta Puautjimi and Freda Puruntatameri as they continue to impress opposition sides and league officials with their skills and application.

St Mary's won their second match in a row after three successive defeats when they outlasted Southern Districts in their twilight game at TIO Stadium.

Districts had to wait until the third quarter before kicking a goal in a game where six-pointers were at a premium.

Marcie Brown, goalkicker Billie Byers and the consistent Tikesa Docherty-Cole lifted the green jumpers to the edge of the top five with their side's nine-point win.

Another club within sight of the top five is Palmerston after they beat Wanderers by 61 points in Friday night's game at Cazaly's Arena.

Tatyana Perry confirmed her status as one of Territory football's rising stars with her six goals, all of them kicked with a touch of class that defines the 16-year-old.

Hannah Torsney, Daysia Creed-Wray and Mesapa Frank were other Magpies in full flight during the morale boosting 11.14 (80) to 3.1 (19) win.
