Week 2 of the 2023/24 TIO NTFL Finals Series for the Men’s and Women’s Premier League divisions have been scheduled.
In the Women’s Premier League, a thrilling first round has set up for some must-watch games in the second week for finals footy.
To start the super Saturday of finals footy, Waratah will take on the Nightcliff Tigers at 12:15pm for Semi-Final One, where there will be no second chances for the loser.
Waratah couldn’t have had a better start to the final’s series with a dominant 103-point victory over the Darwin Buffettes in the Elimination Final.
Under early afternoon clouds at TIO Stadium, Nightcliff just couldn’t get pass the clean skilled Saints. Nightcliff might fancy themselves however in this clash against Waratah, with the last time they met resulting in a 25-point victory for the Tigers at Darwin Mazda Nightcliff Oval.
Following the first Semi-Final, the all-conquering PINT will face off in what could be a Grand Final preview against St Mary’s at 2:15pm at TIO Stadium.
Saints faced a well-spirited Tiger side, but the depth of the Saints proved too much. Last time PINT and Saints met back in Round 15, they battled it out in a cold and wet battle under the lights of TIO Stadium.
It was an even fought contest throughout the entirety of the match resulting as the first draw of the season! With a Grand Final spot on the line, grab your popcorn because this is going to be a blockbuster.
In the Men’s Premier League, the first weekend was electrifying as the Crocs showed why they are premiership contenders before a Tigers comeback in the last quarter had the fans roaring in their Qualifying Final.
To book a spot in the preliminary final, it’s a 2022/23 TIO NTFL Grand Final rematch between Waratah and the Southern Districts Crocs at 4:15pm at TIO Stadium. For Waratah, it seemed like they had all the momentum in the qualifying final going into the fourth quarter, but a resilient Tigers side got home in a thriller by just 2 points.
Southern Districts however, ended PINT’s dream of moving on to the finals holding the lead for the entirety of the match coming out on top with a 26-point victory.
For only one of the Grand Finalists from last season, they will be moving on to possibly defend their premiership title or seek redemption.
It's Grand Final rematches galore, as the Nightcliff Tigers will take on St Mary’s in a 2020/21 Grand Final rematch at 6:45pm under the lights of TIO Stadium. St Mary’s had the week off to prepare and take notes on how the other sides performed in week one of the finals series.
Whilst the Tigers are revelling after an incredible comeback win was staged after being goalless in the first term and 23 points down at three-quarter time.
In the 2020/21 Grand Final, a near-packed TIO Stadium witnessed one of the best Grand Finals in NTFL history with a high-scoring affair heading into extra time that had Nightcliff come out on top by just 7 points.
