NEW DIGITAL SCOREBOARD FOR TIO!

A new state-of-the-art score board is now in place at TIO stadium for match-goers to enjoy the Melbourne and Port Adelaide game this weekend, bringing footy watching experience at the TIO Stadium to a national level.

Chief Minister Paul Henderson said more than 7000 fans will head down to the block-buster AFL this game Saturday and see the new $300,000 TIO Stadium scoreboard with wi-fi, instant replay, live feed, and free to air TV coverage.
 “AFL is part of our great Territory lifestyle and more than 7000 Territ
orians will come down this weekend to enjoy first-class footy,” Henderson said. “The state-of-the-art 40sqm screen will bring the spectator experience at TIO Stadium to the national level using world-class technology used in sporting venues around Australia.
 “We’re investing in our sporting facilities so Territorians can get out and about and enjoy our great Territory lifestyle and families can have somewhere to take the kids.”
The new TIO scoreboard is the latest in a series of investments by the Territory Government to boost AFL participation and support in the Northern Territory including:
• $2.5 million investment into the $15 million Michael Long NT Thunder Learning and Leadership Centre to be built at Marrara;
• $9.5m to build a new first-class AFL Stadium and home of the Palmerston Magpies; and
• Upgraded facilities at TIO Stadium and Traeger Park as part of a five year deal with the AFL to bring premiership matches to the Top End.
Chief Minister Henderson said the new scoreboard is similar to those at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Tasmania Cricket’s main stadium and at the Aurora Stadium in Hobart, the Hawthorn Football Club’s home away from home.
 “The scoreboard is made up of 42 LED screens and has a viewing angle of 150 degrees horizontal and 60 degrees vertical – it can be used for AFL, Cricket, NRL and football games,” Henderson said.
 “It is designed so it can be viewed in the bright Territory sunlight and is operated wirelessly from anywhere at the ground.
“The new scoreboard complements our already excellent facilities at TIO including TV broadcast standard lighting, the new quality sound system and two new media boxes.
“The project is part of the Territory 2030 strategic plan to ensure Territorians have access to a wide range of facilities and activities that enhance the great Territory lifestyle.”
