The AFLNT State Academy Youth Girls are off to Melbourne to participate in the National Championships, which will run between the 2nd and 6th of May.
The AFLNT State Academy Youth Girls are off to Melbourne to participate in the National Championships, which will run between the 2nd and 6th of May.
It is the first time AFLNT has entered a standalone team, after being paired with AFL Tasmania in previous years.
Over the five day carnival the team will play three matches:
Tuesday 3 May 9:00am Melb time – vs Tasmania
Thursday 5 May 3:00pm Melb time – vs NSW/ACT
Friday 6 May 10:30am Melb time – vs Wommeras
AFLNT High Performance Manager, Wally Gallio said the team had a mix of experience.
“The players are a bit apprehensive about what to expect, a lot of them haven’t played at this level before but we’ve got a good balance of players who played last year and the year before – girls who played with Woomeras, that played senior women’s footy – that can help out the inexperienced players.”
Gallio said the team had earned their standalone spot in this year’s competition.
“The players’ training and commitment from a coach’s point of view, you couldn’t ask for anything more. They’ve ticked all the boxes, they come to every session, and they communicate well so we’re looking forward to exciting times.”
At the conclusion of the Championships two All Stars teams will be selected based on individual performance as well as coach and umpire input.
