MICHAEL LONG & AFLNT WELCOME $10.7M COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT INDIGENOUS TRAINING & EDUCATION IN THE TERRITORY

Patron in Chief of the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre (MLLLC), Michael Long today welcomed the commitment from Leader of the Opposition, Bill Shorten to invest in the construction of an Indigenous Training Centre and additional boarding facilities to complement the existing student accommodation at the Centre.

Thursday 26 May 2016

“I thank Mr Shorten for this $10.7million commitment which will allow the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre to further improve training, education and well-being outcomes for young Indigenous Territorians.

“I am extremely proud of the centre and its achievements thus far and this announcement today further demonstrates the Centre has the potential to really change lives,” Mr Long said.

The proposed training facility will be modelled on the national award-winning Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) in Victoria.

AFLNT will work closely with PICAC to ensure that all successful elements of the PICAC Trade training program are modified for effective delivery to young Indigenous Territorians.

This streamlined program delivery developed specifically for the Indigenous Training Centre being announced today will provide program participants with a trade that will equip them to be important contributors to their community.

The additional student accommodation facilities announced today as part of the $10.7million commitment will enhance the existing MLLLC education program.

The potential for boarders will also have access to unique football experiences that have been designed to inspire further engagement in the education program.

AFLNT CEO Michael Solomon said today’s commitment is most welcome as AFLNT looks to build on the success of the MLLLC program.

“It is incredibly exciting that not only do we provide a suite of holistic football-themed education programs at the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre, this commitment will allow us to offer much-needed trade training opportunities and improved student accommodation options for the future,” Solomon said.
