The AFLNT Thunder Youth Girls team had a convincing 9.10.64 to 2.5.17 win over the Woomeras to finish their 2016 Youth Girls National Championships campaign on a positive note.
The opening quarter was a tight tussle between the teams who know each other quite well.
NT was quick out of the centre, getting the first clearance and clean possession of the ball, which allowed Clare Rogers to kick the opening goal.
A couple of minutes later the Woomeras locked the ball inside its forward 50 and took a slender one-point lead after slotting it through the middle.
NT answered back when Evelyn Rapark added a poster before Danielle Ponter’s quick snap rolled through to the left. At quarter time NT lead by the smallest of margins- 1.3.9 to 1.2.8.
In the second term the traffic was all Thunder’s way, Alana Coombes’s running shot on goal in the opening minute going a little too far right but enough to get the Territorians firing.
Amy Chittick goaled with a perfect set shot from close to the top of the 50 before Coombes added the first major to her name.
Arthurina Moreen showed why she is as good with her hands below her knees as she is overhead when she crumbed her own missed mark and booted her first goal.
At half time Thunder lead by 29 points – 5.7.37 to 1.2.8.
The third quarter was a tussle for the Territorians, who had a lot of possession of the ball early but couldn’t capitalise.
The major highlight being Evelyn Rapark with a shot around the body from the boundary.
Going into the final term the scoreboard read: Woomeras 2.5.17 to NT 6.8.44.
Captain Tayla Thorn had a few chances early but just missed out on a major before Arthurina Moreen capitalised on the pressure being applied by the Thunder forwards to claim her second from a set shot.
Little pocket-rocket Evelyn Rapark added two more goals to her name before the final siren sounded.
Victorious by 47 points the Thunder girls head back to the Territory tomorrow morning on a high.
